Orphan Care
"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress..." James 1:27
At Crossings, we are taking this verse to heart and finding new ways to reach out to those in spiritual and physical need. And everyone can get involved - campers, retreat guests, and those who simply want to make a difference. During the 2008 summer alone, over $105,600 was raised for orphan care and helping underprivileged children attend a Christian camp. Crossings campers even had the experience of talking with and seeing children from across the globe - the ones whom their offerings would directly affect.
Currently our orphan care focus is Zambia, a large country in central Africa. Zambia is a country in crisis. Approximately 1 out of every 5 individuals are HIV positive which leads to an average life expectancy of only 30.5 years. Innocent children suffer as a result. With a population of 11,000,000 there are approximately 1,000,000 orphans. In fact, statistics indicate that 80% of Zambia's population is under the age of 15 years old.
Crossings Ministries has prayerfully decided to get involved. We have gone into the communities and found children that are without food, clothes, parental guidance, medicine, educations and, most importantly, Jesus Christ. These children are invited to enroll in a school where they find all of these things. We ask you to pray about how the Lord may be leading you to partner with us in this endeavor.
How Can I Get Involved?

Crossings had the opportunity to take a preliminary trip to the school where students are being sponsored in January 2008. The children had been receiving care for just a few months. Their condition was dire. One boy in particular named Ezron, was in really poor condition. His face was emaciated, he had ring worm on his head and back, and he was so sickly he could hardly play during the breaks. Crossings returned in July 2008, only 6 months later to find Ezron unrecognizable. He had chubby cheeks, no ring worm and you couldn't hardly keep him off of the soccer field. More importantly, he had received 6 months of learning about the gospel of Jesus Christ.
It only takes $300 dollars to provide for a child like Ezron for an entire year. With your donations, these children in Zambia will experience a life they've never know.

Tread Zambia is a way to see orphan care through the school first hand. You will experience African culture and minister to the children and adults on the school campus.
